Building the Future: Robotics at Hickory Hill Academy

Led by the talented Katie Nash, HHA's Science and STEM teacher, students are engaging in innovative and exciting projects through robotics. Robotics is a crucial aspect of modern-day education, teaching students valuable skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. Under the guidance of Ms. Nash, students at HHA are able to explore the fascinating world of robotics and develop their skills in this rapidly growing field. Let's dive in and learn more about the incredible work happening in HHA's robotics program!

"This year we began a LEGO Robotics Club at HHA that allows students in 4th to 6th grade the chance to learn coding, engineering, and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way after school. While utilizing spike prime kits students can build and program robots that move, sense their environment, and interact with other devices!

Participating in a robotics program at school provides many benefits to students. During challenges it provides opportunities to showcase critical thinking skills and also requires students to think creatively and work through various obstacles as a team to find a solution. This not only helps students develop their technical skills but also teaches valuable life skills such as persistence, adaptability, collaboration and creativity.

Each session lasts 8 weeks and meets on Wednesdays for an hour. During that time students are having fun building and are also learning about engineering, coding, and physics which can help spark an interest in STEM subjects and careers. In the future we hope to utilize the kits and skills gained in this club to create a team to compete." Katie Nash

There's even more excitement in store for our Robotics program coming just in a few months! Starting in the fall of 2023, a brand new K-8th grade building will be opening, complete with state-of-the-art facilities and technology. One of the standout features of the new building will be the expanded Science and STEM lab, which promises to be a huge classroom for students of all ages. With access to the latest equipment and resources, students will be able to engage in hands-on learning experiences that are sure to inspire their curiosity and passion for science and technology. The new building and STEM lab are just a few examples of the exciting developments happening at Hickory Hill Academy, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for HHA!
